Since the dawn of time the Czech lands have always presented a place where various cultural and spiritual influences met and mingled. And still today they are a source and starting point for remarkable art phenomena such as puppetry.
Marionette is an art form very much connected to theater, but one can hardly overlook its ambition to become a piece of art independent of stage and drama story. Marionettes will always go beyond purely esthetic function of an artwork, beacuse they can come to life through human voice and motion and join the worlds of art and theater together.

Czech puppeteers used to have sets of marionettes dominated by male characters. In traditional puppet theater no such set could exist without the Caspar clown character. photos of caspar clown and other types. But marionette makers of today, including those who follow the old tradition, have surpassed original character types and carving schemes. They see their puppets as a medium to express their own artistic imagination and thoughts. Fantasy materialized in a theme, use of material, art design and the way of leading the puppet have no boundaries.
